All new, but the user experience remains
OnTrust Inkasso- und Abrechnungsgesellschaft mbH presented us with an interesting challenge. The customer approached us with the wish to renew the website, especially technically, but to fundamentally preserve the look and feel of the old website and only optimize it selectively in order to continue to offer its customers a familiar user experience.
Urgent updates to the theme and PHP
It was no longer possible to continue working with the old WordPress installation and the installed theme. The theme had not received any updates for years and was therefore a major security vulnerability. The PHP version used on the server side was also completely outdated. The website therefore needed a complete overhaul.
Optimization of the design
We not only recreated the essential design of the site with its strong orange and bold font with the help of the Pro theme from ThemeCo, but also optimized it. The OnTrust logo, which consisted only of the word mark “ONTRUST COLLECTION AGENCY”, already offered a strong left-aligned design. However, the old website only reflected this in certain areas.
For example, we removed the claim “Securing your worldwide revenues” from the middle of the logo and placed it on the left underneath the logo.
It was also important to the client that a series of film posters be placed prominently as quickly visible references. We placed these posters in a slider that appears in the start area of the page to immediately show new and old users that they are looking at a company with a lot of experience.
Creating trust flush left
The following section “What we do” was previously centered and could not be seen at a glance either on a desktop or on a smartphone. In the new design, the section is now left-aligned. Thanks to a CSS grid it can be quickly grasped in 4 blocks next to each other on the desktop. It unfolds one after the other on the smartphone to avoid becoming illegible.
The previous confusion between centered, left-aligned and somewhere in between has been eliminated to visually indicate to customers that OnTrust is a reliable company.
Where is the SEO?
The previous site also left a lot to be desired in terms of search engine optimization. There were no alt texts for images and no headings in the “What we do” section to show search engines what the page was actually about. With the help of the Yoast SEO plugin, we were able to further optimize the pages to give OnTrust visibility on the Internet beyond the customer base it has already acquired.
