ZUKAR
Web Series
The humorous web series ZUKAR started at the beginning of 2016 with the first video “Who are these Germans? Syrian Firas Alshater talks about his experiences within German culture. Originally, the project was intended as a kind of test; how does the online community react to a film project that gives refugees their own voice? Within a few days, the number of viewers skyrocketed. Many more “ZUKAR pieces” on a wide variety of topics were to follow.
The particular challenge in editing the ZUKAR series was to make viewers laugh while conveying a sense of profoundness in Firas’ experiences. It was important to have a certain speed in the editing, which allows the viewers to take the film by the hand and let them become part of Firas’ narration.
